Ireland - Switzerland 0:0 (or girls watching soccer)
Attended LCM last evening, the new EB is doing a great job ;-) Afterwards we went for a drink and food (had a green salad, all I could afford) at an Italian restaurant. Somehow, all the other girls wanted to go to a place where there was a TV screen in order to watch the soccer match. Now, I usually only watch soccer games of the World Cup itself, if even that. Those games are really interesting, even for someone like me (I prefer doing sports to watching sports). I think I'm also more drawn to individual sports, like Tennis and figure skating (I used to be a competitive figure skater for about eight years, even though physically you can't see much of that anymore :-) But the muscles are still there! Underneath all the other stuff...).
Anyways. So we were in the restaurant, and asked where the TV screen was. The owner told us to go downstairs. Ooh, the dungeon, I thought. And it somehow felt exactly like that. Wouldn'tcha know, there were only men/guys down there, watching the match :-) About six or eight of them. Barbaric situation, huh? Girls invading a male "dominion"....Once we girls were there, I felt some hostility (we were talking a lot, and certainly not only about soccer). Not surprising, after all, a guy once told me (was it my boyfriend who told me that?) "Carissa, if men are watching sports and you should happen to watch with them, DON'T SPEAK! DON'T ASK questions like 'why did he do that? Why did he get a yellow card? Why was that a foul? What's a penalty?' or you'll seriously piss the guys off!" .... Okay. So, once one of the men yesterday evening increased the volume of the TV, I remembered that hint ;-) Hehe, I told the girls about it, and we had a good laugh, didn't we? BUT: We aren't complete beginners when it comes to soccer. OH NO! Simone actually knows a whole lot, and the names of all the players on the Swiss Team too, and so do Regula, Joan, and even Noemie :-) Where do I come in? Well, my brother used to be a goalkeeper when he was younger, so I was dragged to a lotta games....once I really get into watching a game, boy, I can be very "passionate" about it....too "passionate" for some people, mwahaha, meaning screaming, cheering and cussing really loud. I think the reason why I haven't enjoyed watching the Swiss Soccer Team lately was because I don't know all these new players. I know, they've been there for quite a while now, but "my era" was when men like Chapuisat, Türkilmaz, Pascolo, Sutter etc. were on the Swiss team ...:-D Okay, I sound like a fossil now (how we say in AIESEC)...
But back to the game: The second half time yesterday was quite exciting. Man, the Swiss had soooooo many opportunities to score!!! Aaah, I was so angry! The final score was still 0:0. But I must say, they played well, those young Swiss boys :-) You know what was funny in the end? One of the men even said "Au revoir les filles" to us, and he had a friendly smile on his face while saying it...do men like it when women try to understand their passion?
