Busy, and sick, times

I think this has never happened to me before....getting sick twice in three weeks. I need to take better care of myself. The past few weeks have been very intense to say the least, but it was all very well worth it. I love my friends :-) And work is good too....

Going home this weekend for my dear Daddy's birthday. Oh and congratulations to my brother too, he successfully finished his studies! It's in times like these that you realize how fast, uh, time flies. When I can say "I finished high school seven and a half years ago", or I joined AIESEC in October 2002, I definetely feel like I'm getting older. At the same time, no matter how much time passes by, certain things will just never change, and that is very comforting. To me it feels like this is the time I know which people I will be friends with for the rest of my life. No matter how far away they are or will be :-p

UnGENEVAble

Geneva seems the place where people meet and meet again*...these two fellas from nomadlife, whom I hadn't met before but got to a chance to meet up with while in Egypt, have come here or will come here soon (or even again, in Danny's case. Fingers crossed for him!). Danny was here in April, Adam will be here next January. A couple of weeks back, I met Jawad from Egypt, whom I hadn't met before either, but to whom I was introduced by Natasha (I met her in Egypt too, and then we met up twice in Switzerland since then, because her family coincidentally lives in my country, haha, what a small world!) via, tataa, facebook. Yesterday, I met up with Jessica, whom I hadn't know before either. She lives in Geneva AGAIN, meaning that she's been here before, as an AIESEC intern, just a little bit before I joined the organisation. How did I know about her? Through him, also via facebook, even though I haven't met him in person yet, haha (actually, I know Devrim from nomadlife).

All this just makes me smile :-) Quite interesting, this reach of a network and how it intertwines with other people's networks.

Plus, a young lady friend (haha, you know who you are, ma belle) who used to live in Geneva too thinks I'm one of the most networked people she knows, and quite seriously asked me if I knew how to get to speak with Kofi Annan's PA. I feel flattered to say the least, haha. Let me work on that! Stretched goals, right? :-)

* And, remembering a lesson from Spanish class a couple of years ago, it seems to have been for quite a long time already: the late Jorge Luis Borges lived here for a long time, died here in 1986 and is buried at the Cimetière des Rois (in Plainpalais, my neighborhood). Queen Elisabeth (Sissi) of Bavaria spent some time here too...okay, her case is slightly different, as she was killed here. Oops. Borges wanted to die here, if I remember well.
